All the schools are closed. Roads are in poor condition.

"Passionate" Playtime
Last evening, I made a suggestion to the kids to act out one of the two Bible stories I had read to them at breakfast. The two stories were Daniel in the lion's den and the story of Jonah and the big fish. (side note: we read them both from The Jesus Storybook Bible and I can't put enough good plugs in for this book - and no, I'm not getting paid or given anything for plugging this book - Its awesome and if you haven't checked it out, take a look, now!)
Thinking my kids would have fun acting these two stories out (since they act out every other movie/adventure we see/read) I was sure I'd have enough time to finish the dishes after supper and get some other odds and ends finished.
As they left the kitchen, I suggested doing Jonah's story first.
It didn't play out as well as it did in my mind.
But, I can say, they passionately displayed Jonah's persistence!
And that was before even acting out the story. ;-)

Sleeping Beauty
I was looking back on some old pictures where my daughter would fall asleep in the strangest of places. I really wanted to find the one of her sleeping in the closet while on vacation at the ocean.

Friday Fieldtrip :)
Skiing for Elle and me and snowboarding for T and Quintin! Days like this make homeschooling so much fun!!! And, with T being able to take off from work, it makes the days spent plowing during the big storms so much more endurable!

Another One Bites the Dust

LA's got her groove back!
I believe I burned myself out during December 2008. That's when I participated in the Thrifty Under $50 Challenge. I made something like 65 Christmas gifts that month for under $50. It was great fun, but I burned myself out.
Then this past Fall/Winter, we had workers in to frame and drywall our basement. Which meant - everything had to come out ... EVERYTHING. It got packed up and moved to storage areas above our garage or it was moved out of the house for good. It was a good way to clear some things out that were still in original packing boxes when we moved in to the house in Sept of '05.
My sewing area was in that dark, cold basement. Ok, it isn't completely dark - but it was C.O.L.D. All my fabrics, threads and notions had to be packed up and put away. I didn't even sew the kids' trick or treat costumes last year because my sewing supplies were in lock-up.
Sometime, right before Christmas, they finished the drywall and we could move back in. We aren't planning to completely finish our basement for a few years, but the combination of framing and drywall assited in the addition of H.E.A.T. to our basement. Lovely, wonderful heat! No more frigid fingers while trying to sew. Or having to wear 5 layers while doing something I enjoyed!?!
My sewing essentials have moved back down and guess what?
I've got my grove back.
I feel like sewing again.

They are both made from the same Amy Karol pattern, but I made the one on top smaller. After making the green flowery one, I realized I was carrying a dufflebag on my shoulder and my poor lil' wallet had nothing to snuggle in against to stay warm. The brown spring-is-a-comin'-soon bag (ironically, its picture snapped next to the 3' pile outside my kitchen door) is my new favorite bag.

day 5 - Unspoken "I Love You's"
My Testimony - and one of the most important Unspoken "I Love You's"

I grew up in a very happy household with loving parents and a brother and sister to fight with:) We went to church a few times, prayed before family dinners and were taught to know right from wrong.
I was not a rowdy, crazed teenager and thought I had it all together. I did not hang around with a bad crowd of people and I made good grades. I was involved in sports and had many friends. As a sophomore in HS, I had my eyes on a cute boy in the junior class. I watched him after lunch outside of his Biology class. Little did I know, he was watching me too.
Our first date was June 14, 1991 and we played miniature golf. We became great friends and he was never shy about telling me about his faith or his church friends (some I knew from school). He took me to a Sunday evening youth activity at a friend's house. His friends were so nice and caring. I was really drawn into the group and continued to go with him to most of the activities I could. On weekends, we did the "group dating" thing: eating out with other couples, watching movies and the like. I went to church with him on Sunday mornings a few times, but not very often.
The following winter, he and his friends invited me to come along on their youth group's winter retreat. I was able to room with some really fun gals (whose friendships I still treasure). We had a very good speaker for the weekend and we had fun out in the snow and playing card games until late at night. The church's youth group advisers were very godly couples who liked to have fun and I felt very much a part of this group.
I can remember the moment it happened. Our speaker had just finished his morning session and assigned us to prayer groups. I thought, uh oh. You see, my dad was the one who had the prayer at meals. I never did, I'd never really prayed before, especially in front of people I'd only known a few months. I began to sweat and become very anxious. What was I going to say?
My anxieties were calmed when I was placed in the same prayer group as my boyfriend's older sister. I don't remember if or what I prayed, but I was brought to tears. I wanted this. What they had. A relationship. To pray and to know someone was listening. You know. A friend. To call on in a time of need or to rejoice with. When no one else is around.
I stayed in the prayer group until the final amen was spoken and I ran up to the girls' room. But not before my boyfriend caught a look at my teary and puffy eyes.
He followed me upstairs and asked what was the matter. He was concerned that I was uncomfortable or that I wanted to go home. Absolutely not, I told him I want what they have, what he has. He prayed with me and I accepted Jesus Christ as the Lord of my life. What an awesome weekend.
On June 15, 1996, I married my best friend, that cute boy in Biology class, whom I had beaten at miniature golf 5 years prior. Isn't it so awesome to look back at our lives and see how the Lord places people in our paths? He has the perfect timing and He uses the perfect people to give us what we need - when we need it.

day 4 - Unspoken "I Love You's" & Snow update
My husband brought these home on Monday because we were originally planning to go to the cabin this weekend.
They've been wonderful to look at this week since we got hit with 3' of snow!!
We had 18" over the weekend, and then another storm came in early Tuesday evening, with a third piggybacking taking us into Wednesday. Another 18"! It finally stopped snowing last night. But now the problem is the wind and the drifting that comes along with it.
It is wonderful to see the sun today!

The snow stopped late Saturday morning; measuring 18 inches. I know they got more just south of us - but seriously, 18" was PLENTY.
After a long day yesterday with the kids by myself while T plowed at work and helped with the township roads,
and an early morning at church today,
with T back at work plowing this afternoon,
and when I'd rather have been inside,
under a blanket...
There was a bigger message I wanted to send to my children.
18" is hard to pack down to make a sleddable track! Fun times!

DIY Dish - Creativity Served
I believe you all know how much I heart the You Can Make This website. I've gotten so many cool ideas from this site! Not only can you buy sewing/craft patterns, they offer many for free. While the YCMT website is everything DIY (do it yourself), they also have a You Can Quilt This, for quilting and hand-embroidery and SWAK Embroidery which is machine embroidery downloads.
And now, they're added something more.
They are introducing The DIY Dish - Creativity Served. I think that title is the cutest.
At the DIY Dish, they are going to be “dishing out” some of the latest and greatest DIY projects in sewing, crafting, scrapbooking, home decor, kid projects, machine embroidery, hand embroidery, and more!
And their going to "dish out" these projects in a series of videos. The videos are available to watch at no cost and will feature tons of great DIY projects.
