Friday's Five

1 - Went to a Casting Crowns concert Sunday night and it was AWESOME!  Rather than just listening to them sing, or singing "at one another" (as CC's lead singer called it) it was a praise and worship night and was unforgettable.

2 - We didn't return home from the concert until just before midnight.  The kids were staying at Grandma and Grandpa's.  T took a vacation day and we had breakfast together and just a fun morning of uninterrupted time!  We rescued G/G just after lunch - finding out that the kids had all woken up before 7am!!  They *all* slept that afternoon!

3 - Does anyone think it odd that the same day I would post about our new "pet" I would also make a shoo-fly pie?  (Link to shoo-fly pie for those reading who aren't locals!)

4 - T took Quintin snowboarding a second time this winter.  They both had a great time.

5 - We are currently studying insects in school (hence the perfect fit of that new pet!)  Part of yesterday's lesson was for Q to make up a funny story about an ant.  His story was clever and it didn't surprise me when it included snow.  The ant was snowboarding down his ant hill.  There may or may not have been a half pipe involved!

Friday's Five - Farm Show Edition

High 5 JM! ;-)

1 - A busy week but we were sure to make time to hit the farm show with some friends!!  Recognize them?

2 - Soccer is more than halfway through it's fall season.  This Sunday's game was played last night - which was a nice change.  Especially when followed by supper at the Farm Show! :-D

Quintin is on the green team again.  There was a boy on the orange team named Quinlan - little bit of confusion when the coaches would call their names!

3 - Last year I posted about the "Farm Show Smoking Santa" and he was here again this year.  I tried to inconspicuously snap a picture from where we were eating last night and it didn't turn out as well as I had hoped - but I think you'll get the idea from his ripped t-shirt! ;-)

Well, that's it for the Farm Show side of Friday's Five!  You have to understand that in our small town, the Farm Show is bigger than Homecoming!  We bumped into many friends this week we haven't seen in over 15 years and it was great to catch up.  It's a great way to support our hometown, local churches and groups.  The milkshake line at one of the local church stands was the longest this year than I've ever seen!

Now, back to our final Friday's Five!

4 - As of today, our first marking period is OVER!

Friday's Five

1. We were to have a pool party with our Sunday school class tonight, but it has been cancelled due to rain and cooler temps...and I'm not complaining! ;-)
   
   
2. My inlaws return from vacation this weekend and I'm eager for their safe return as well as to hear about their trip to England.
   
   
3. Gum does the body good! Ever try using gum to keep your children focused? It works wonders to keep Q focused on math! Thanks WeaverMom!
   
   
4. Today we finished our 4th week of school - ahhhh, so good to be back into a routine. Q is in 2nd grade, E is doing pre-K/K work and C provides the comic relief!!
   
   
5. The kids and I had a great time with their cousins here for 2 days! However, we all appreciated sleeping in this morning! :-D
   

Friday's Five

I picked up a copy of "The Fishwrapper" last night from a local store.  It is a "little, big paper" that offers positive news, inspirational articles and information everyone can use in the local community.  It's a very uplifting little newsletter and they are available for free in many local stores.  I'm sharing some my favorite 5 quotes taken from the newsletter's article, "An Old Farmer's Advice."

• Words that soak into your ears are whispered ... not yelled.    
• Forgive your enemies.  It messes up their heads.
• Every path has a few puddles.
• Live a good, honorable life.  Then when you get older and think back, you'll enjoy it a second time.

3 - Test pattern for You Can Make This - skirt sewn onto recycled tank top (I didn't have any to repurpose, so I found this one at Tar.get for $3)

4 - Test Pattern - skirt with shorts underneath made from repurposed adult T-shirt

5 - I had so much fun with the above pattern, I made Elle a second pair with a green Tshirt. I'm also working on another tank top dress (#3).

Friday's Five

1 - Thankful for the beautiful weather we are having right now!!!  (Especially since we had a lot of rain earlier in the week)

2 - Thankful for good friends to chat with, and more importantly - laugh with, Wednesday night at church!!

3 - Thankful for the love and support of family.

4 - Thankful for the retail outlets nearby so that I could buy new summer clothing for the kids at more than 50% off!!

Friday's (top) Five

1 - I'm reading a book this week, by Alton Brown (host of several shows on the Food Network) while at the same time, watching the Food Network.  Addicted? Hmmmm....

2 - Earlier this week I finished, "Who Stole my Church?"  I really enjoyed this book.  It is a fictional account of a church struggling to "move into the 21st century."  A concerned group of members meet with the pastor and it turns into a series of meetings in which everyone grows, well, rather than trying to explain, see if you can pick up a copy from the library!!

3 - I really enjoyed the above book so much that I'm having a hard time trying to figure out what to read next ... hence the lite reading material mentioned in item #1!

4 - We are all excited to see Daddy very soon.  He's had a busy week away and you can see what he was up to here.  I very much appreciated Shirley's pictures, as they provided a much needed daily dose of daddy for our house!

5 - My baby has shown an interest in the pot.ty this week - could it be?  No more diapers?  Whatever will I do? ;-P

Friday's Five

This week's Top Five:

1 - If you want a good birthday cake, buy one. I have yet to find a cake and icing recipe I like. Any suggestions?

2 - Cinnamon and sugar toast was the breakfast of choice this week!

3 - My son believes the 'council meeting' at church next Wednesday will involve members of the (star wars) Jedi council.

4 - Naps! Naps are wonderful - those nice little one hour ones this week were just what I needed to get through the rest of the day. And if the kids are sleeping at the same time - it's all the better!

5 - My baby girl (I say baby knowing she is almost 4 1/2) has joined us at the school table and is loving it. I didn't want to admit that she was ready for some sit down learning - call it selfishness for not wanting to plan school for two children - but she is loving it and I think this one is going to move quickly through phonics. Having the older 2 at the table has quietly invited the littlest one to sit at the table. His skills? His cat-like reflexes allow him to take a pencil from his unknowing siblings and be across the house with it before they realize it is gone. I guess a few sprints in the morning are good for my non-cat-like reflexes.
