Tiny Talk Tuesday

Having a bit of a stressful week, I fell into my hubby's embrace with tears in my eyes.

Our younger two children noticed and came to join in on the hug, wrapping their arms around our legs.

We stayed like that for a few moments until our youngest ended the tender moment by asking, "How long are we going to hug like this?"

Putting Colin (3) to bed last week, he looks up at me and says, "Good night, don't let the bed bugs ... eat you!"

Elle, fascinated with her new sil*ly bandz bracelets was in a panic the other night.  She looked at her left arm and gasped, "Where are my bandz?"  She was close to tears as she searched the floor around her and under where she was sitting.  In a moment of desperation and so close to losing it, she looked at her right arm, barely gathered herself, smiled in relief and said, "Oh!  There they are!"

Quintin would like to be a chef when he grows up (this week - anyway!)  He was at the kitchen counter helping me cook when he said, "I'll want to be a chef - I smell real good."

Thinking he had said it because he had just grabbed a shower, it took me a few minutes to realize he meant smell with his nose - like he sees Remy, the mouse, do in the movie Ratatouille!

Tiny Talk Tuesday

Homeschool Co-op with Colin...
I'm not usually in Colin's class at co-op, but last week I needed to fill in for a mom whose little one was at home sick. Colin was very excited to have me in his class and to show me off. He walked up to a group of children and said, "Dat's my mum," and came and put his arm around me. He further showed his cuteness by pulling up a chair for me after I tried to sit next to him on the floor for storytime! After the display of adorable-melt-my-heart-ness, he proceeded to not pay attention to the story and wander around the room.

"Dear Jesus, Thank You for this day. Thank You for the ... Mom, was it sunny today? [MmmHmm] Thank You for the sunshine. And thank You that we could ... Mom, did we play outside a lot today? [MmmHmm] Thank You that we could play outside a lot today. And please let it be sunny tomorrow!"

Lunch with Quintin...
One day, Quintin had asked if he may make lunch. I was planning on cooking up some hotdogs on the stove so I told him sure. He was most pleased to roll the hotdogs around in the buttered pan with the wooden spoon. Colin and Elle were running around the kitchen and Quintin told them to get ready or he'd cook their hotdogs "until they were very black," if they didn't settle down. I ushered them into the bathroom to wash up and assisted Quintin with the plates and rolls. I pulled the tongs out of the drawer and placed them nearby for him to get them out of the pan. The hotdogs were ready, the younger two at the table and Quintin was eager to put them into the rolls for each of us. He turned the heat off and asked, "Mom, will you hand me the pliers?"

Elle, has been joining in with our lessons about stars and planets. I wanted to introduce the word "astronomer" so I began by saying that the people who study stars have a special name. Elle looked at me and answered, "Super stars?!"

Quintin loves his Indiana Jones lego set up in his bedroom.  While downstairs, he acts out the different bits and pieces he knows of the movies.  He asked me to make a bag like Indy's and he wore it all day yesterday, along with his fedora.

Somewhere during the day, I overheard him playing with his siblings, saying, "Just call me Quintin-ana Jones!"

Elle, at 4 and a half years of age, has already decided she will have 4 children when she is a mommy. 2 boys and 2 girls. Levi, Malchei (mal-key-i), Leah and Kelly.

T suggested she wait and talk to her future husband about these names as well as how many children she's having. I thought Elle might protest, but without hesitation, she agreed.

What a lucky man to marry her! ;-)

We were outside last night enjoying the sunshine that finally arrived in the late afternoon.  Quintin was riding his bike and stopped for a moment to examine something on it.  He looked at me and said, "My bike was made in China.  Everything was made in China."  He continued, gesturing towards our neighbor's house, "That was made in China!" 

Hmmmmm....

Heading outside to do some yardwork, I asked the kids if they want to join me and keep me company. Elle joined me outside a few minutes later, announcing, "I came out, Mommy, in case you wanted business!"

Colin's fascination with the healing process of my big boo-boo leads him to look at it All. The. Time.  As I finished mowing one afternoon, he starting wiping my scab.  I asked him what he was doing and he said, "Wipe off grass, Mom."

What was he trying to wipe away?  The hair that I didn't want to shave for fear of shaving the scab off!!

Tiny Talk Tuesday

All three of my children love to help at various points of the cooking/baking process. They each enjoy watching and adding an ingredient or two and then they go back to whatever they were doing. Occasionally, they'll stay and see a whole project from start to finish - when it involves dessert! :-)

I always get a chuckle out of the way Colin (2) and Elle (4) ask to help. They come out to the kitchen, look up at me with those big brown eyes and ask, "Can I help you make?" Or, in Colin's case, "Help you make?"

They help me cook and bake, so why shouldn't they ask if they can help me make??

Tiny Talk Tuesday

T stopped home for lunch yesterday - which was great because I was in the process of dismantling our Christmas tree. I asked him if he would mind pulling the top portion off for me while he was home. As he did, Quintin asked, "Isn't there a button you could press?"

T and I both looked at each other like, yeah, that would be a great idea and we both moved our arms in robot-like fashion pretending to finish the tree and package it in the box.

My only question, will that button offer the option to remove itself, once in the box, to the basement?

Ever since, I've felt the urge to watch Jetson re-runs.

Tiny Talk Tuesday

The other week, I told the kids I was going to make Daddy's favorite pie, a lemon sponge pie.

Elle was eager to help.  As she watched me mix the ingredients, she asked, "When will you make my favorite pie for me?"

This struck me funny, because this pie I was making, was only the third pie I'd ever made.  And we don't eat pie other than holidays.  So, I needed to question her further.

"So, Elle" I asked, "What is your favorite pie?"

She answered very matter of factly, "Watermelon pie!"

"Oh really?"  I replied, "But you don't like watermelon when we have it in summer."

"Oh, but I like watermelon pie."

What's a mom to do?  I goo*gled 'watermelon pie' and actually found a recipe for a frozen pie.  I'll keep it in my stash for next summer - but first I'll ask to see if she has a new favorite by then.

Tiny Talk Tuesday

Quintin had a 6 year check up with the doctor in June. The doctor, after comparing his height with other 6 year olds, told him his height is great and he'll make a great soccer or baseball player. (Meaning: He's not going to be real tall so if basketball is a favorite sport, try to sway him now, LOL.)

Quintin heard only the baseball part and came home wanting to play and play for the next several weeks. Growing tired of baseball, we asked him about kicking the soccer ball.

Quintin says, "But the doctor said I should play baseball."

We assured him that she also said soccer, and she wasn't limiting him to just those two, he can play any sport he chooses too (with the exception of basketball, of course)!

He became worried and then asked, "Should we call the doctor and ask?"

(Oh, little boy, you are just so precious!!!)

Tiny Talk Tuesday

Its been a little bit since I've recorded some of the Tiny Talk happening in these parts. Its not because they haven't said anything worth recording though. :-D

We were driving and came up behind an Amish buggy. There were 3 blonde-as-blonde-could-be little boys with their heads popped out of the back of the buggy. As they turned off the road onto their farm lane, T and I waved to them and they got big smiles and waved back.

Elle, not knowing we had waved, watched them and exclaimed, "They are waving at me!"

It was just so precious how she got excited thinking they were waving just to her. It melted our mommy & daddy hearts!

Tiny Talk Tuesday

The Tiny Talkers made me giggle yesterday when I heard this, so I just had to record it.

Quintin and Elle were playing and they bumped heads.  Elle ordered Quintin, "You hurt my head.  You need to get me a new one!"

They continued playing and she hurt her leg, Quintin quipped, "Ha!  Now you'll need a new leg, too!"

Dop = stop
No - why do they love to say this?
Mik = milk
Wawa = water
Puppa = puppy

Others (with pronuciations I am not sure how to spell): yellow, red, blue

The other night I was changing Colin for bed and he looked at me and muttered 3 syllables - I know they were completely random, but it sounded so much like "marshmallow."  I encouraged him to say it again, but it was just a one time thing.  It is so fun to watch them learn new words.

This summer, Elle has really taken an interest in the nail polish on my toes. She's been eagerly anticipating when it is her turn, asking, "Mommy, will you please paint my pony tails?"



"You mean your toe nails?"



"Yes," she answers with smiles of glee!

At the dentist yesterday, Quintin was finished and came to where I was sitting with Elle in her exam room. As he rushed into the room, he told me "P and O are loose!" It took me a few seconds to realize he meant his two bottom teeth! WOW! He's soon going to lose his first teeth!!

Quintin and I were talking about a toy he's had since he was a baby.  Elle asked how old she was when he got it.  I tried explaining to her that she wasn't born yet and she thought she understood when she said, "Oh, I was in your belly then."  I told her no, she wasn't in my belly yet, she was still with God.  Just like that, she quipped, "Yeah, and I don't remember what He looks like!"

Last week, we spent the week at the Jersey shore with another family and their three girls. Quintin enjoys playing with their girls, but there was some confusion in the "girl-lingo" and we'd hear him say things like, "Mom, I want to wear my two piece today."

Elle was eating a Fruit Roll Up with these tongue tattoos. You put the roll up against your tongue and it leaves a print. Here's Elle asking me, "How does my tongue look Mom?"



And here is Colin. His bib says, "Color Me Happy" and his face says, "Color Me Oreo!"

Tiny Talk Tuesday

Quintin has his pirate ship in his room and he enjoys spending the afternoons playing with it during his rest time. So, I decided to keep Elle's doll house up in her bedroom to play with a little before she naps.

Now, with Elle, we're getting to that point that if she naps too long in the afternoon, she'll be up til 11 singing in her bed...which isn't that bad since she stays in her bed, except we can still hear her when we're in bed!

The other day, she and Quintin were in their rooms playing and I had hoped they wouldn't take naps so we could put them to bed a little earlier at night.

As I took her up, she asked if she could play with her dollhouse til it was time to get up. I told her yes, but she had to stay in her room. I also said if she got tired, she could climb in bed and rest a little.

She assured me she was not tired and would play until I came in to get her.

Famous Last Words: "I'm not tired. I will just play until it is time to come out."

Here's what I found when I opened her door (it was just too precious that I had to grab the camera!)


Poor lil' thing. She's got a bruise on her chin from trying to pull a "stick" out of the ground - it was a root and snapped back down after she had just gotten it above her head!

And her shirt? "Tiaras make you taller!"

Tiny Talk Tuesday

Elle was searching through a drawer that had various cups and containers for Colin. She pulled out a sippy cup and said, "This is my favorite cup. May I use this cup?"

I told her no, it was Colin's. She proceeded to ask, "May I use it when I'm a baby again?"

I answered, "Ok! Sure!"

She ran off smiling!

T and I were both in Elle's room saying goodnight. Before we left, she asked, "Do you guys play in our playroom when we go to bed?"

We both started laughing and answered, "Yes Elle! We do!!"

She just giggled and giggled!

Our neighbor asked Quintin if he wanted to see her new webkinz. Showing that he is first, all-boy and second, unaware of this new craze, Quintin answered, "Huh? Oh yeah, we have weapons!"

The kids and I really enjoyed our Wednesday morning Bible studies. They looked forward to the craft part of it each week.

Which is why we chuckled the other night before T left for his evening men's Bible study, when the kids asked if Daddy will be doing a craft that night!!

Our development is surrounded by farms - we've got pigs and cows nearby - maybe even a chicken house or two. So, sometimes, when we walk outside, or open up a window, the smells remind us of them, even without seeing them.

The other day, Elle opened the back door and said, "Eeewww, the cows have been pooping!" She proceeded to close the door and walk away.

Quintin overheard some music with a woman singing "We're gonna make our dreams come true" and he asked us, "What if she makes my bad dreams come true?"

We assured him she couldn't.
