Crayola Fieldtrip!!

The Crayola Factory was so much fun!  First, I love old buildings that have been converted - so much character!  Second, tons of Crayola supplies everywhere!!!  Very fun and colorful!

We got to watch a demonstration on how they make crayons and markers.  We all received tokens and were able to spend them on 4-pack crayon boxes and markers!

We even learned what to do with dried out markers!  Instead of throwing them away, let the tip soak in water for 30 seconds and they'll be as good as new!  COOL!!!!!

Above the Crayola Factory, in the same building, is the National Canal Museum and admission was included!  What a fun place to learn about how and why they made canals.  Lots of places for the kids to explore how to raise and lower water with the lock system in the canals.  The kids got to move their boats through the canal using the locks to raise/lower the water!  Very cool hands-on learning!!

On the road again

After a great week in Ocean City, New Jersey, we're on the road again!

The kids were excited to wake up with Dad at home on a Monday morning. He told them to get dressed because we we're going on a fieldtrip! He told them it would be a two hour drive and our oldest said, "That's easy, it's either the beach or the cabin!"

Nope!!

Dad came out of the playroom with colored pencils and pretended to color.

Their next guess??

The Crayola Factory?!?

Why is my 5 1/2 year old daughter sitting in her little brother's bike seat?

We're going for a mother/daughter bike ride on the boardwalk.

To get some breakfast to bring back to the family.

At Brown's "Almost Famous" Donuts - for some chocolate glaze, vanilla glaze and cinnamon donuts.

She may be too big, but I needed someone to hold the boxes!   Besides, she still has 3 lbs until she is at the maximum weight for the seat.

On the beach

We went out with the kids to try to fly a kite, but it was too windy and the kite wasn't cooperating! ;-D

We wanted to take some pictures of the kids walking towards the Atlantic on a beautiful Wednesday night with the full moon over the ocean.  As much as I wanted them to "cooperate," T and I both admit this is a very accurate representation of our children's personalities!  I love it!

1st day of Co-Op

It's gone to the birds!

The kids have been pretty excited to study birds in school this month.  Last week, they were even more excited when I mentioned the word, "Crafts!"

With a 2-liter bottle, some bird seed and one of these doo-dads, we made a bird feeder to hang!

We've been studying birds as we look at the states and what their state birds are.  Last week we studied the robin.  So we made a robin's nest.

- "grass" - 2 Shredded wheat biscuits
- "twigs" - 1 c chow mein noodles
- "mud" - 1 c peanut butter
- "mud" - 1 c semi sweet chocolate chips
- "eggs" - jelly beans

Melt the mud together and then stir in twigs and grass.  Place 4 globs on wax paper lined cookie sheet and mold into nests.  Once they harden, add eggs.

While they were cute, the nests weren't a big hit - but the jelly beans were!

I love this curriculum for my kiddos!

Fall is *almost* here!

It seems like my kids want to suffer together.  Two years ago, Quintin lost his first tooth, Elle was jumping around and slammed her mouth into a table and Colin had hand, foot and mouth.  Misery loves company! ;)
